Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university.

  • Final-year students are eligible to apply for the Preliminary Examination, subject to proof of passing before the Main Examination.

  • Professional degree holders such as Engineering, Medical, and Technical graduates are eligible as per UPSC norms.

  • Medical students completing internships can apply provisionally.

Age Limit (as on 01 August 2026)

  • Minimum Age: 21 Years

  • Maximum Age: 32 Years

  • Eligible Date of Birth Range: 02 August 1994 to 01 August 2005

Age Relaxation:

  • SC/ST: 5 Years

  • OBC: 3 Years

  • Defence Personnel: 3 Years

  • Ex-Servicemen: 5 Years

  • PwBD: Up to 10 Years

Salary / Pay Scale / Benefits

Civil Services officers receive salary and benefits as per the 7th Pay Commission.

  • Entry-Level Pay Level: Level 10

  • Basic Pay: ₹56,100 per month

  • Gross Monthly Salary: ₹85,000 to ₹1,00,000+ (depending on posting)

Selection Process

The UPSC Civil Services selection process is conducted in three stages:

Stage 1: Preliminary Examination

  • Objective-type screening test

  • Two papers conducted on the same day

Stage 2: Main Examination

  • Descriptive written examination

  • Tests analytical ability, depth of knowledge, and writing skills

Stage 3: Personality Test (Interview)

  • Face-to-face assessment by UPSC Board

  • Evaluates leadership qualities, decision-making, and suitability for public service

Examination Pattern

Preliminary Examination

  • General Studies Paper I: 200 Marks (Merit-based)

  • CSAT Paper II: 200 Marks (Qualifying – 33% required)

  • Negative marking applicable

Main Examination

  • Qualifying Papers: Indian Language & English

  • Merit Papers: Essay, GS I–IV, Optional Subject (2 Papers)

  • Total Marks (Mains): 1750

Interview

  • Total Marks: 275

Final Merit: 2025 Marks (Mains + Interview)
